New to Microgreens....
they are the seedlings of mature plants and contain high levels of antioxidants and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, iron and zinc. Their beneficial vitamins and minerals are more concentrated than in the mature plant so are a great addition to your diet.⁵ ⁶
Antioxidants, particularly polyphenols are believed to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease.⁵ ⁷ ⁸
They can be used in sandwiches, wraps and salads, as a garnish, juiced or blended into a smoothie.
Harvested Microgreens and Living Trays
Our microgreens are all started from organic seed and grown in our own blend of organic coir and recycled green matter. The live trays are certified organic but once harvested they can no longer be referred to as organic.
This is because one of the key principles of the Soil Association is that crops should be grown directly in the soil when they are going to be harvested⁴. This is the same whether you are harvesting a microgreen crop or removing a strawberry from an organic pot grown parent plant. Once cut they cease to be certified organic.
Due to the small stature and delicate nature of microgreen crops it is not practical to grow them directly in the ground.
But rest assured that our cut microgreens go through the same growing process as our certified organic live trays.
